Sixth Year A

Unit 5 Chemical reactions

Week 3
Video 1 Chemical Reactions

Video 2: Oxidation

Fichas interactivas
  1. Has a chemical reaction taken place?
  2. Chemical reaction
  3. Combustion, oxidation, fermentation

Here is the answer to last weeks question: What happens when you dip a copper coin into a solution of water, vinegar and salt?

Explanation: Acidic acid and sodium chloride forms when you mix vinager with salt. The copper oxide that makes the coin look dark reacts with the acidic solution and leaves the coin/penny looking shiny. There are two chemical reactions: 1. vinager, water and salt (reactants), acidic acid (product); Copper oxide and acidic acid (reactants), the oxide is removed from the copper (product)

Week 2

During a chemical reaction the atoms within the substances rearrange to produce a completely different substance,

Watch this video and answer all the questions. It will help you to understand what happens to the atoms in a chemical reaction.

Unit 4 Mixtures

Here is the presentation about matter. I hope it helps!

If you haven´t found an experiment yet, the following links may help you!

Experiments on mixtures and how to seperate them

Experiments states of matter

Remember to keep in mind the scientific method. It´s important when carrying out an experiment: Observe; ask a question, write a hypothesis; test your hypothesis by experimentation; write down your results and make your conclusion.

Life-Changing Science Discoveries

Try to imagine life without antibiotics. We wouldn’t live nearly as long as we do without them. Here’s some discoveries that have changed the world. They’re listed in the order they were discovered.
